OLM Band

Band InstrumentsDirector BJ Humpal
05/07/12 – Big band week.  If you haven’t heard yet, the Symphonic band went to their first band festival ever in the history of the school on Saturday.  We took home a rating of “excellent”, the second highest score possible.  Great job Symphonic band!
This Wednesday is our big end of the school year performance and award ceremony from 6:30 to about 8:30 pm.  Parents and family can come see how the students have progressed throughout the year and cheer on our award winners for their accomplishments.  Students please dress nicely.  Colorguard will be in winter uniform.
Friday, May 11th is the talent show at the school during school hours as well as another performance at the “Cap & Town” at 5 pm on Main street by “Canal”.  Students please wear your khakis and navy polos for the 5 pm show.  Colorguard will again be in winter uniform.
Also, the next parade will be May 19th in Chowchilla.  Maybe in uniform!
We’re looking for some faithful and hard-working parents for next year’s band booster staff.  If you like how things have been going and would like to perpetuate those efforts, or if you don’t like how things are going and would like to help make it better, please plan on attending the next band booster meeting on May 30th.  Our program would not be what it is today without the help, prayer and support of our band parents & volunteers.
to God be the glory,                Bj
12/04/11 – YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS ONCE IN A LIFE TIME COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALF TIME SHOW AS A SALUTE TO THE MILITARY…. YOU WILL BE FILLED WITH PRIDE FOR OUR ARMED FORCES.
This is where our OLM band members could end up.
11/13/11 – Update
On Saturday Nov. 12th we had a band review that was hosted by Golden Valley High School.  Our wonderful little band competed against other Junior High Schools.   We did not win any trophies but they did their best and we are proud of them.  Thank you to all the parents who showed up to cheer on our band memebers.
We marched in the Veterans Day parade on Friday Nov. 11th.  They did so well.  They were little troopers marching in the rain without even complaining.  Go OLM Band – you are doing so well.
11/8/11 – Hello busy people,
Our little band is having 3 performances in a row this week.  If you haven’t seen the flyers yet, Thursday morning November 10th students need to bring their instruments and equipment for an “honoring the Veterans” performance at the school at about 8:30 am.  We’ll start with the drum solo “A.C.” followed by a patriotic performance from the advanced band, then our grand finale will be our parade performance “the Valiant”.  Just school uniforms is fine for this first show.
The very next day, Friday November 11th, is the Veteran’s day parade on Main Street.  Students are to be dressed in performance attire (polo shirts & khakis or colorguard uniforms).  We will be meeting at 12:30 pm at East Campus on E. 18th Street, 1 block from “G” st.   Students will be responsible for their instrument, equipment and necessary items for the performance as well as their own ride to and from the event.  We will not know our order in the line-up until we arrive at the parade.
The very next day, Saturday November 12th, is the Big Merced Band Review!!!  The band will meet in the formation area at 9:15 am on the corner of Parsons and Childs (the old bowling alley).  The band competition will be about 10:20 am on Childs by Golden Valley High school.  There will be a percussion competition about 10:30 am on Parsons by Golden Valley.  Students are to be dressed in performance attire (polo shirts & khakis or colorguard uniforms).  Students will be responsible for their instrument, equipment and necessary items for the performance as well as their own ride to and from the event.
Say a prayer for our little group.  We’ll be going up against some big league hitters but I’m excited.
God is my provider,
Bj
Greetings all,
The band did a great job at the parade on Friday.
We have more coming up this month.
This Thursday, November 3rd 6:30-8 pm, will be our next band booster meeting.
One adult representative for every band student is requested.
Let’s work together to help make the music education program at our school the best it can be.
***Don’t forget, this meeting will count for volunteer hours for the school.***
God Bless,
Bj Humpal – Band Director
