OLM Students : Saving the Planet, One Cartridge at a Time

February 1st, 2007

For the past four years, OLM students have been recycling used printer cartridges and cell phones. With the help of the Funding Factory program, our students are raising money for the school’s technology program while keeping More…these items out of our landfills and making this world a cleaner place to live. Every laser printer cartridge, inkjet cartridge, or cell phone they collect earns the school money for new computers, software and equipment.Last year alone, more than 300 million cartridges were thrown away, while 30,000,000 cell phones were tossed or replaced. Over 80% of printer cartridges on the market today can be recycled through this program. With the help of nine business supporters plus many other businesses who send their donations to school with their children, OLM School has earned over $2000 for technology this school year alone and over $16,750 since the school began the program four years ago. OLM School has kept 975 cartridges and cell phones from ending up in landfills.Besides being a fundraiser, OLM students are learning to be responsible citizens by exercising personal responsibility and stewardship for the environment. To find out more about how your business can get involved in this free, earth-friendly fundraiser, contact Mr. Somers at the school or visit www.olmlancers.com
